Health Care Provision by the Government
Health care is one of the basic needs to human beings. Democratic governments rise to power through political parties that make manifestos which form the basis of how they will run the country. They make promises to the electorate on how they will improve the life of people once they rise in power. One of the campaign promises is based on how they will come up with prudent health care policy to suit the citizens. More so access to health care is one of the parameters which measure how well countries are doing economically and socially. It is paramount that, every person has an access to health care services in any country all over the world. The house of representative passed the health care systems which extended health care insurance to 32 million Americans, with an extension of halting down industrial practices which are discriminative against the sick with a small margin of 219 against 212 with non of the republican voting yes. The glaring question is whether the government should take full responsibility to provide health care or it should just make sure that health care is affordable and within the reach of every citizen (Devettere 462).
Arguments for provision of health care to citizens by the government
Government should take responsibility of health care providence to its citizens at all cost. Devettere (462) argued that, leaving a third party to provide health care insurance leaves a lot to be desired. In this case, if the employers are left to provide health care at their discretion then it would be very discriminative to the people who loose their job and those who are unemployed. On this basis, it is socially correct and virtually right for the government to provide health care for its citizens without discriminating. This is because health is as vital as education and hence cannot be overlooked. It should be noted that, third parties have exploited the chances by over stating the premiums with loopholes which would deny an ordinary citizen from getting prudent health care. In this case, the magnitude by which competition among investors who have vested interests in health care insurance leaves a lot to be desired. Basically, the forces are an affront to citizens’ inalienable right to access health care. On this basis, the government should take up this role and exonerate the third party factor and chip in to provide health care to its beloved citizens. Generally speaking, provision of health care to the citizens by the government is one of the social good in a country. It should be noted that, protecting health interests is larger than parochial interests of insincere, selfish and greedy individuals who want to reap from loopholes and complexity of health system in America (Devettere 462).
